TPJC Mass Dance '09: The Informal Review

Written by azhar.

The 23rd Student Council had just released three mass dance instructional videos for the upcoming orientation camp. The videos have invited mixed reactions from the new JC1 batch. Some of them love the three dance items while the others think the choreography is either too hard or too err... weird.

The team in charge of the college mass dance this year has chosen bold songs to accompany their choreography. Who would have expected them to choose an old pop song such as Wannabe, made famous by the Spice Girls? The other two three songs chosen fall under the hip-hop genre - Low (by Flo Rida), Run the show (by Kat Deluna) and Temperature (by who else but the one and only Sean Paul). As a whole, I would say interesting choice of songs. Although one of them seems to be out of place, but it is good (perhaps) to have something different to be part of the whole mass dance package.

All right, here comes the most crucial part - the CHOREOGRAPHY. Overall, I believe the steps are not too difficult or complicated. One thing I noticed is how they repeated certain steps (especially for the first song) over and over again. Although some may argue doing so eats up the creativity of the dance items, it can actually help the JC1s memorize the steps faster and better.

Ok, enough of the good stuff; here comes the criticisms.

Firstly, I do not seem to get some of the steps that are incorporated into the dance items. I did some research beforehand and found out that there are quite a number of bloggers (mostly guys) out there who hate dislike the male dancer. Apparently, the poor impression they have on him is due to the feminine steps he choreographed for the guys in the COUPLE DANCE. Hmmm...I am not siding any particular party here but I sure have one question in mind.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HE DOING HERE???

Perhaps you guys can help answer the question. I doubt that most of the guys will do this move....

Next, I know, you know, and we all know that the dancers made quite a number of mistakes in the three videos. It is completely fine if they made one or two errors here and there while recording the video, but more than that is as good as saying the supposedly instructional videos are corrupt. The dancers should have requested for more takes and as far as possible strive for perfection in the videos. Why? The last thing you want is a bunch of confused human beings dancing in the hall. Oh boy...

And finally, this goes out to all JC1s out there who may not like the mass dance items as much as the rest. I have heard and read some of your comments regarding them and am appalled by some of the insensitive remarks. Please do not spread untrue rumours that one of the dancers is gay and many more. Instead, show some appreciation for the dancers involved who have spent hours trying to figure out a simple yet fun choreography for you guys.

Till then, have fun!

Hahahaha. What a review man. Some of the moves are gay. Why should I appreciate his efforts when he did not do a good job to choreo a more suitable routine for the boys?!

ok...wow.are the jc1s really expected to learn 3 dances just for the camp...that's harsh.

Perhaps a more fun and upbeat song with funny dance steps that make everyone look ridiculous (e.g. MJ's hip thrust) wouldn't have been so bad. And Wannabe is the nicest song among the others, hands down.

Hi Azhar, what the both of them has done for the whole council (and J1s) are probably more than what you did for council. oh, I bet nobody knows that you're from 22nd? Is it because you're so slack? OH IS IT BECAUSE YOU ARE SO UNKNOWN YOU NEED TO CREATE A WEBSITE TO INSULT PEOPLE?

What right you have to advertise this blog in TPJC.NET when it is not an official TPJC website? What right do you have to advertise your post to the entire JC1s?

The council, I believe, has been doing their best to make this camp a success and to bond the JC1s together.
However, because of your post, people have judged the 23rd unfairly.

Please Azhar, do the council a favour, do the school a favour, and start shutting up.

You need to know your limits.

Thank you, from an OGL who loved the OGL camp and it was so well-planned and organised that he wishes every weekend was OGL camp

@ Anonymous: Woah. Thanks for your honest comments. But I am quite perplexed that you are attacking someone who is fighting to protect the dancers. In fact, I am supporting the dancers when I condemned JC1s who spread the untrue rumours that one of the dancers is gay. I even wrote a general article about the topic.

Oh, maybe you can't accept the two out of three criticisms directed at the council. Firstly, the move is out of the blue. Secondly, they did make a number of mistakes while recording.

So yeah. Chill and don't get so carried away by your emotions.

Take care and have a nice day! =)

merepek anonymous number 3. merepek.

how the hell do you know what azhar has done for the council? did he need to harp on all the efforts he has done, or broadcast it on morning announcement? many councillors contribute in the background, need they show their faces and shamelessly declare I AM A COUNCILLOR AND I HAVE CLEARLY CONTRIBUTED AS YOU ALL CAN SEE.

and oh, no, azhar didnt create this website JUST TO INSULT PEOPLE, do u even frequent here and see his works? so just because it is unofficial, he has no right to make TPJCian known? I personally feel TPJCian is a great effort at keeping past and present students in touch with what's happening in school, esp when the school magazine is only circulated once a term.

past and present councils put their hearts and souls into their every project, and im sure the student body is able to see tht, as do you. it's just the mass dance component being critiqued negatively here, im sure the student body is not going to judge the 23rd SOLELY on a few gay steps honestly.

azhar has, on several occasions defended the 23rd when many has critiqued them. is shutting up about the council's flaws gna do them a favour? critique gets swallowed quite well by councillors, im sure because we know that is the only way we know how to improve ourselves.

so how abt you do the council and school a favour by shutting up instead? honestly, you ignoramus.
